Noel MacDonald, who holds a joint professorial appointment in the departments of Mechanical and Environmental Engineering and in Materials, is a member of National Academy of Engineering. He specializes in the area of microelectromechanical systems (MEMS). Before coming to UCSB, MacDonald was on the faculty at Cornell, and more recently, served as Director of the Federal Microsystems Technology Office at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency.
