| Our research interests are motivated by environmental concerns resulting from the large-scale hazards of modern technology. The potential for these so-called man-made disasters has been increasing rapidly in the past ten years as the economics of scale push toward ever larger industrial facilities. Inadequately understood manufacturing processes, and increasing proximity to humans, have led to unprecedented accidents. Beyond the extensive damage, such major accidents can be detrimental to the respective technologies themselves. |
