Dynamic Systems, Control, and Robotics and Solid Mechanics, Materials, and Structures: MEMS, Solid Mechanics, Dynamics, Microsystems Motion

Dr. Turner's interests involve many areas of microsystems, especially dynamics and characterization, and applications utilizing interesting dynamics. In 1994 she earned her B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan Technological University. She received her Ph.D. (1999) in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics from Cornell University, where she did primarily MEMS-based work. She joined the department of Mechanical & Environmental Engineering at UCSB in August 1999, where she is continuing her research in the areas of MEMS and nanosystems. Her research group consists of 3 Ph.D. students and 5 undergraduate researchers. Dr. Turner is the recipient of the 1997 Varian fellowship award given by the American Vacuum Society, as well as an NSF graduate research fellowship, and a 2001 NSF CAREER award. Her work has been published in Nature and Review of Scientific Instruments, as well as other publications. She is a member of ASME, IEEE, ASEE, Tau Beta Pi, Pi Tau Sigma, and the American Vacuum Society.
