ME 100/200 Seminar on "The Dynamics of Granular Flows and the Effects of Segregation"

Date:

Monday, April 2, 2012 - 2:45pm

Location:

Engineering II, Room 1519 (Chem E Classroom)

Speaker:

Jim McElwaine, DAMTP, UNiversity of Cambridge

Abstract:  Granular materials are ubiquitous in the environment, in industry and in everyday life, but the governing equations are as yet unknown.  We report on granular flow experiments and simulations and show how they can be used to develop improved theories. We consider flow down chutes and open slopes and discuss the effects of particle segregation on flow mobility.
