The Valentine Laboratory: Molecular and Cellular Biomechanics
University of California, Santa Barbara

Positions Available

We are now hiring, with positions to start in Winter 2009.

Our interdisciplinary research incorporates key concepts from engineering, physics, biology, chemistry, materials science, and computer science to tackle fundamental questions of how forces are generated in cells. A variety of experimental techniques are employed, including high-resolution optical trapping, single-molecule fluorescence, advanced microscopy, and microrheometry. We use a systems-based approach to probe force generation at a wide range of length scales, from that of single proteins moving in model polymeric networks to that of intact living cells.

To find out more about the opportunities for experimental biomechanics research in the Valentine Lab, please email Dr. Valentine directly. Graduate and undergraduate students from all scientific disciplines are encouraged to apply. Those interested in postdoc positions should include a cover letter and CV, including list of publications and references.
